3/10/42 Night Police patrol added to city - car & armed cost $2800

5/13/42 - William A. Hillenbrand elected Demicratic Chairman of the 9th district.

9/21/42 Hillenbrands flew a Miniteman Flag. Theis was awarded to all firmms by the Treasury Department whose employeees were participatiineg at a rate of 90% or more in the purchase of war bonds. One of the first in the state to achieve the award.

7/6/44 Blaze of undetermined origin on Main Street destroyed several adjacent warhouses. At 3:00 AM was discovered in trhe bakery of Frank Gehring. Estimated loss of $35,000. Flames visible for miles from city. one of the worst in the towns history. Entire business district threatened. Fire dept declared "fire out" by 7:30 AM Elmer Ollier risked life and limb by rescuing a dozen laying hens from the fire. Declared"Fire or no fire they layed their quota of eggs". The fire set of shotgun shells in Gehrings hunting coat.

New wing dedicated at Margaret Mary Hospital on 10/22/44 with an open house.

8/10/47 Batesville Memorial Park and Swimming Pool dedicated with a complete program. War Years Gov. Henry Schricker featured speaker

1/18/49 Fire at eth Texas Eastern Transmission company pumping station near Batesville caught fire. The Big Inch Line. Fire hundreds of feet in the air. Natural gas. Visible over a 60 mile radius. Startedd 9:35 pm and continued until 9 am wed. $500,000 damage.
