Batesville Public Library was established. 200 books donated by Micheal F Bohland - private citizen. The library operated by the Parent-Teachers Association in the public grade school building. 1938 - Moved to the Memorial Building. 1938 - after more donations the library was organized under the state public library law. first board of trustees - Mrs. Micheal T. Bohland, President, Miss Nora Wonning, Secretary, Mrs. Will J. Gelvin, Mrs Harry Blank, Mr. E. E. Taylor, and Mr. Orlando J. Schorr. Mrs Clarence Greeman served as first librarian. Open one hour every Tuesday evening each week.

Budget for books - $25.00 per year. Furniture consisted of one table and two chairs. 1948 - had grown to encompass the entire second floor. Local industrial plants supplied furniture, office equipment. Local organizations and citizens donated funds to buy reference books. April 1948 - magazines added and service extended to the Hospital.

March 28, 1935 - council voted to block off West Pearl Street between Vine and Mulberry to accomadate to roller skaters. This would be on Monday and Thursday evenings.

1935 - Land donated to the city became Camp John Claire. donated by John A. And Clara M. Hillenbrand.

1935 - June ordinance passed allowing the sale of alcohol in city limits.

Thursday August 1, 1935 - second annual Civic Day - Merchant-All-Star Baseball Game featured event.

January 14 - contract let to Gutzwiller Construction Co for construction of new gym. Dedicated on october 29, 1937.

May 22,1937 - New Post Office

1937 - March - earthquake tossed eggs on floor at Farmers Feed and Produce Two earthquakes occurred on this date - pictures swayed on walls and doors flew open.

May 20, 1937 Batesville's last Civil War Veteren - John Henry Schultz.

1937 - Dedication of Band Stand at Liberty Park

November 4, 1937 - first basketball game in new gym. Batesville 18 - Guilford 11
