September 1920 - City received a letter from George Hillenbrand donating the
former Fair Ground to the city for use as a Park.

1921 - Petition placed with city administration to provide a suitable
Memorial to the soldeirs who had served in the War. It carried plans for a
combination city hall and community building with a gymnasium. bond issue
authorized to pay for the construction.
1922
Year Events
Louis Cook built the first radio receiving station in Batesville in 1922.
A few mechanically minded persons had made wireless sets in the 1910s, but
until 1922 radio stations were unknown in the city.
Old Town Hall razed in April 1922, Contract for new construction accepted,
Cornerstone laid in May 1922 - ceremony, building dedicated in August,

Edward Armbrecht leased the lower floor of the Canfield Building for garage
purposes when it was vacated by Wm. F. Pohlar in August 1922. He included auto
repair and accessory salesrooms. After his death, the garage was bought by the
Gwaltney Brothers, and eventually sold to Louis Walterman in 1928
St Louis Parochial School built

Year Events
In 1923 "Silent Cops" were placed at the 3 most important crossings in the
city. These traffic signal posts were placed in the intersections of Boehringr and
Main, George and Main, and Catherine and Main.
Surveyors selected the route of State Road 46 through Batesville during the summer of
1922. The local Commercial Club worked for several years to get a state road routed
through the city. State Road 46 was concreted in 1923. With both railway and state
highway facilities, the city became better located on main travel lines than ever
before. The route would follow Columbus Avenue to Smith Street. From Smith Street to
Boehringer, then to Fitch Avenue, to East Pearl and on to Morris.
1924
Year Events
New High school on Mulberry St
John Bartling and Willard Huneke of Sunman built a gasoline station at the
corner of Boehringer and Smith Street in the summer of 1924.
1925
Year Events
Rosemont addition built - promoted by George M. and Sophia M Hillenbrand,
who owned the land.
1926
Year Events
Union Hall razed, two story brick building ereced in its place.
Boulveard lighting system installed

Westwood addition official
The old Herald building and lot on the corner of Boehringer and Main Street
was sold in June of 1928 to the Standard Oil Company which built a modern
filling station on the site.
